NCL
The NCL scientific community is
a vibrant one consisting of Scientists, TechnicalAssistants, Post-doctoral
Researchers,Doctoral Students and Project Assistants. Of these, Scientists and Technical
Assistantsare permanent staff whereas ProjectAssistants are considered temporary staff.
Each of these roles is important for theconduct of science at NCL. The scientificstaff and
students are the true strength of NCL.
It is the scientist who provides leadership to
R&D activities at NCL.
The duties of ascientist include conception, planning,initiation and
execution of research projects.
At the senior levels, the duties also include R&D management, administration,
institutional investment planning, business development, recruitment and creation of
newstrengths and facilities.
The Technical Staff are largely responsible for the
maintenance, day-to-day management andoperation
of instruments,equipments and facilities at NCL.
Post-doctoral Researchers and Doctoral Students
focus mainly on their objective ofobtaining advanced training
in the methodsof science unedr the guidance of a qualified research adviser.
Post-doctoral researchersare often funded through ResearchAssociateships from the
government agencies.
Doctoral students often receive junior and senior research fellowships fromCSIR for
pursuing research at NCL.
Students of engineering receive the GATE scholarships. Many doctoral students,
thoughworking for their PhD at NCL,
are actually registered at the University of Pune, University of Bombay and IIT-Bombay.
Project Assistants are hired from time to time
depending upon the needs of a particularproject. |
