                            Crops in Pune District

The agriculture in Pune district has much variations in it as compared to others in Maharashtra. It includes 4 among the 7 agricultural climate zones in Maharashtra.

         Due to presence of Sahyadri ranges in West of Distt. a plenty of rain falls.  Also due proper geographical structure for dams, a number of Irrigation Projects are implemented. Pune Distt. comes under Krishna vallry and the rivers are Bhima, Mula, Mutha, Indrayani, Ghodnadi, Nira. Khadakwasla, Kukadi, Ghod, Nira, Pavana are the 5 important Irrigation Projects.  

         Due to flow of rivers from west to east, scarcity zone in east is utilised for gardening. Sugarcane is the important cash crop.  There are 10 sugar factories in the district.  Gardening, wheat and vegetables are slightly replacing the crop 'Jawar'.
